Erik Marcus Torkildsen
Manager Identity and payment, REMA 1000
I work at the intersection of retail, identity, loyalty, and payments, with more than 20 years of experience building and operating large‑scale payment and customer platforms from the merchant side.I am currently responsible for Identity and Payments at REMA 1000 Norway, part of Reitan Retail – one of Northern Europe’s largest retail groups. My role spans strategy, architecture, governance, and execution across payments, customer identification, loyalty, and in‑store experiences, at a scale of hundreds of millions of transactions annually. Before joining REMA 1000, I held senior product and platform roles at Nets, Verifone, and Aera, where I worked with some of the largest merchants in the Nordics and Europe. Across these roles, I’ve been deeply involved in designing and operating solutions covering card payments, local schemes (BankAxept), loyalty, identity, terminals, PSP platforms, and merchant integrations. At REMA 1000, I focus on:Building robust, merchant‑controlled payment and identity architecturesReducing cost and risk at scale while improving customer experienceIntegrating payments, loyalty, and identity into a single, coherent customer journeyPreparing retailers for structural shifts such as open banking, wallet consolidation, and stronger customer identification
I am an active contributor to industry dialogue through conferences, advisory boards, and initiatives such as the Nordic Initiative, where merchants collaborate to define future requirements for payment and technology providers. My perspective is always grounded in a simple principle:
payments and identity are not standalone services – they are core infrastructure for retail strategy and customer trust.
